Denmark to Sweden - My trip to Copenhagen and Malmo

I’ve been a little quiet on the photo front lately, but I do have some travel photos to share as two days ago I got back from a seven day trip with my boyfriend to Copenhagen and Malmo.

Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t like flying, which is why we chose somewhere a bit closer to home with a short flight time. We’ve both wanted to go to Copenhagen for a while and after a bit of research my boyfriend decided to tag on a few days to Malmo in Sweden, as it’s only a 20 minute train ride from Copenhagen across the Oresund Bridge. We spent five days in Copenhagen and stayed in a lovely little flat through Airbnb and then two days in Malmo at the Moment Hotel, which is literally across the road from Malmo’s central station.

On our first night in the Copenhagen we headed to Tivoli Gardens theme park which was all lit up in the dark. I’d read that during summer they have concerts and music on Saturdays, so we didn’t want to miss it! It’s such a beautiful place to explore  - apparently Disneyland was actually based on Tivoli!

Copenhagen as you would expect has such a variety of architecture to see and if you’re looking for those colourful buildings head to Nyhavn, which is where Hans Christian Anderson stayed. I definitely recommend taking a boat trip from here too!

Other things I’d recommend doing in Copenhagen are climbing the tower of the Church of our Saviour, which has a LOT of stairs to climb within the tower before you get to the outside area where you’ll be treated so some lovely views over the city and can then climb the spiral stairs to the top.

Not too far from the Church is the freetown Christiania, which is worth a visit. We didn’t take any photos in this area as although I’d read that certain areas are OK to take photos, some places advise not taking pictures in Pusher Street which is where the canabis sellers are, so we kept our cameras in our bags.

Of course you also have to visit the little mermaid statue, even if just to say you saw it!

Here’s a few other recommendations of things to do and places to visit in Copenhagen:

Reffen - Awesome street food and drinks! I’d advise using the harbour boats to get to and from Reffen

Gorms - Amazing Pizza! We visited the stall in the Tivoli food hall, but these are dotted around Copenhagen.

War Pigs - A tucked away brewpub in the meatpacking district - My boyfriend really enjoyed this one!

Carlsberg Museum - One for the beer lovers, you get a free beer with your entry ticket!

Malmo

Malmo is slightly similar to Copenhagen in the sense that it still has that fairytale essence to it, colourful buildings and plenty to explore. I hadn’t done too much research into what Malmo had to offer, but we were pleasantly surprised and it had a lot more than I expected. Big thanks to Malmö Tourism who recommended the Sky Bar in the Clarion Hotel, we visited for drinks in the evening and loved the views!

My recommendations of other things to do and places to visit in Malmo:

Picolo Mondo - Italian restaurant who made a lovely Calzone!

Bullen - Cosy pub, classic Swedish food and loved by the locals.

Emporia - For those who want to do some shopping!

Feel free to get in touch if you’re planning a trip and have any questions!
