When I first started shooting gigs I brought a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens for well less than £100, a bargain! To this day the nifty fifty still lives in my kit bag, but when I became a photography journalist I had the advantage of being able to test out lenses that came in for review and loved being able to get wider shots at gigs. I do still love a good close-up, but when you're in a really tiny venue, with a super tiny pit a 50mm is just too close-up. So, I've finally brought my own 24-70mm f/2.8G ED lens from Nikon and can't wait to get shooting both gigs and portrait/fashion stuff with it. Watch this space!
